WORLD SERIES Come To A Close

The Houston Astros scored their first ever World Series title in the franchise’s history! After a 3-3 win and a winner-takes-all deciding Game 7, the Astros gave viewers one of the most thrilling games against Los Angeles Dodgers, who had an impeccable series. Ultimately, in the end it was the Houston Astros who came out victorious with a 5 to 1 final score over the Dodgers.

After the record setting game was over, the Astros were crowned the 2017 World Series Champions. But, along with the championship title as a team, George Springer was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the team this season and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.

George Springer

MVP George Springer definitely helped the Astros defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in a winner-takes-all game. Thanks to their double hitter in the beginning of the game, the Astros were able to take the lead. Then, after Cody Bellinger’s throwing error, he was able to take advantage of the situation and hit a homerun in the second inning that gave the Astros their five-run lead.

After winning his title Springer said in an interview, “Our team believed in each other all year, and through the good times and the bad times, through a rough stretch in August, to getting down 3-2 against a very good New York team [in the American League Championship Series], there are a lot of things that happened.”

Springer also said, “I’m so happy to be a part of it to bring a championship back to a city that desperately needed one. It is a surreal feeling,” referencing the devastating aftermath that Hurricane Harvey left in Houston.

The Houston Astros have come a long way; back in 2011 they had lost 106 games. Jump forward to this season, and they have one of the most successful seasons of their entire franchise. The Astros won 42 of their first 58 and ended the American League with the second best record.

Los Angeles Dodgers
Although the Los Angeles Dodgers lost, this has been an incredible season for the team. The Dodgers entered the World Series with 104 regular-season wins, the most in the major leagues this year, and only one fewer than the club record, which was set back in 1953 when the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn.

There is no doubt that the Los Angeles Dodgers will be back stronger than ever in 2018. The team had an outstanding season this year; they won the NL Championship Series against the Cubs in game 5 with a dominating score of 11 to 1. They will use the World Series loss as motivation, and they will learn from their mistakes and better themselves and individuals and as a team. The men in blue are going to come back more dangerous and better than ever next season.

On November 5, 2017 The Los Angeles Dodgers bought and full-page color ad in the Sunday special edition of the Houston Chronicle congratulating the Houston Astros for their World Series victory. On Monday November 6 the Astros sent out a tweet thanking the Dodgers for their “Extremely classy move” and wished them the best of luck.
